HHS Announces New Program to Enhance Drug Safety

The first initiative is a pilot project the HHS Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) is undertaking with its counterparts in theEuropean Union and Australia to jointly plan, allocate for and conductinspections of drug-manufacturing facilities. The project willinitially focus on makers of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Ifsuccessful, this program could expand to include other types ofmanufacturing facilities. The novel collaboration will allow HHS/FDA tomore fully take advantage of information gathered by trusted inspectionand regulatory systems in other countries.
