Medical Favoritism

Posted by Ronni Bennett in Time Goes By blog According to a recent story in the Baltimore Sun, there are about 7,000 practicing geriatricians in the U.S. According to the Census Bureau, there are about 38 million people 65 and older, meaning there are about 5,425 elder patients per geriatrician. That's why most old people, like me, have an internist or family practitioner, who may or may not have any geriatric training, as our primary care physician. Some of the time it doesn't matter. But there are differences in treating elders that many non-geriatricians are not familiar with.
