L.A. County mental health staff to rely on police

Under current law, patients must be admitted if they are brought in by police -- but not if they are brought in by a mental health worker. Commissioners seek a quick solution to the problem. - November 21, 2008 - Los Angeles Tmes Questions to Ponder:
  1. Why do we tolerate access to crucial services to require law enforcement intervention?
  2. Why do we refuse to provide evidence-based community based emergency interventions not requiring institutionalization or law-enforcement involvement?
