Medical News: ICAD: Alzheimer's Incidence Accelerates Among the Oldest Old - in Meeting Coverage, ICAD from MedPage Today
A study of the "oldest old" -- people in their 80s and 90s -- suggests that the incidence of Alzheimer's disease or dementia increases rapidly with age.
"The incidence of dementia more than triples -- from about 6% among people ages 80 to 84 years to more than 19% in people over 95 years of age," said Ugo Lucca, MD, head of the Laboratory of Geriatric Neuropsychiatry at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milano, Italy.
Dr. Lucca reported the findings of the Monzino 80-plus Study at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease here.
