Medical News: 'Silent Stroke' Risk Rises With Hypertension - in Cardiovascular, Hypertension from MedPage Today

By Crystal Phend, Staff Writer, MedPage Today Hypertension increases the risk of so-called "silent strokes" (lacunar infarcts) by 60%, according to a prospective population-based study. Other factors in the prevalence of lacunar infarct among older adults were white matter hyperintense lesions on MRI and the ratio of anterior ventricle to brain volume, Perminder Sachdev, MD, PhD, of Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and colleagues concluded.
