Physicians Are Talking About: The Audacity That Physicians Should Take the Helm of Healthcare Reform
President Obama wants healthcare reform to address the needs of children, low-income families, the elderly, persons with preexisting conditions, and the unemployed -- virtually for all Americans, with the possible exception of physicians.
On May 27, even as Office of Health Reform Director Nancy-Ann DeParle welcomed deans of medical schools, chief executive officers of teaching hospitals, leaders in medical specialties, and practicing physicians to the White House for a stakeholders meeting on healthcare reform, physicians on Medscape's Physician Connect (MPC), an all-physician discussion board, were stating that their needs were going unvoiced and unheard. More than a few are ready to change that.
