Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, who pulled the public plan from his bill to attract Republican support, is out with a statement about the opt-out that is less than a full-throated endorsement. Baucus, who has said for months that a public option can't pass the Senate, says he's happy to support it -- if it can get 60 votes.
A public option opt-out would almost certainly cost Democrats Republican Sen. Snowe, a vote Baucus worked for months to win.
