  1. We desperately need this legislation to fight the terrible silent crime of elder abuse and financial exploitation no matter who the perpetrators are.

Unfortunately guardianship, a system intended to protect the elderly, has become a tool that can be and is used by perpetrators to loot the estates of elderly people and is destroying lives of the victims and their families.

This is a silent crime that is not treated as a crime today. Every senior citizen should declare who they want their guardian to be if they every become incapacitated. If this is not done then the Court can chose your guardian and a stranger can take over the person's life and assets. Unfortunately power of attorneys are often ignored in guardianship courts. We need to pass the word to the baby boomers and seniors to make sure they declare the person they would want to be the guardian of their person and their property while they can.
