Low Childhood IQ Linked to Later Vascular Dementia Pauline Anderson Medscape Medical News 2008. © 2008 Medscape June 25, 2008 — Low IQ in childhood is a risk factor for later development of vascular dementia (VaD), but not Alzheimer's disease (AD), according to the results of a new study. Preteens who scored low on a cognitive assessment test were about 40% more likely to develop VaD as seniors than their schoolmates with higher IQs.
