Statehealthfacts.org Updates Data on Health Reform, State Fiscal Distress, Tax Collections, Death Rates, Medical School Graduates, and More
Statehealthfacts.org now includes a health reform section that offers customized fact sheets for each state, together with a directory of topics from the site providing background on the disparate impacts health reform may have on the 50 states and D.C. Statehealthfacts.org has also added new data on the percentage of high school students not meeting the recommended physical activity guidelines, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey for 2007. Updated information on death rates due to suicide, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, cerebrovascular disease, firearms, motor vehicle accidents, HIV, and diabetes is now available from the CDC for 2006. The latest measures of state fiscal distress have been added with updated data on unemployment for June, food stamp participation for April, and foreclosure rates for June. New data on states facing budget shortfalls in state fiscal year (SFY) 2010 have been added from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Updated state-by-state data from the U.S. Census Bureau on state government tax collections per capita and by type of tax are now available for 2008. Also added from the U.S. Census Bureau are new data on the percent change in state personal income tax collections from 2008-2009. Other updates include 2008 information on the number of registered nurses from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and data from the Association of American Medical Colleges on the number of medical school graduates for 2008. Data on medical school graduates are also available by gender, race/ethnicity, and Hispanic ethnicity.
