University of Oklahoma researchers collaborate with police and state health professionals to create assessment for domestic violence.

The tool is a screening questionnaire designed for use at domestic violence calls to help police officers, advocates and health care providers assist victims at risk of even further violence. Whenever possible, responders immediately meet the victim and take him or her to a safe place where they ask the questions. The process takes about 60 seconds and works as sort of a triage tool in domestic violence cases.
“This assessment will help first responders recognize a potentially lethal situation and take action,” said Janet Wilson with the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing.

Developmental Disabilities Protection & Advocacy Program Statement of Goals and Priorities

Request for Comments: Federal statute and regulation require each State Protection and Advocacy (P&A) System to prepare and submit to public comment a Statement of Goals and Priorities (SGP) for the P&A for Developmental Disabilities (PADD) program for each coming fiscal year. While the P&A is mandated to protect and advocate under a range of different Federally authorized disabilities programs, only the PADD program requires an SGP. Following the required public input for the coming fiscal year, the P&As submit the final version of this SGP to the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD). ADD will aggregate the information in the SGPs into a national profile of programmatic emphasis for P&A Systems in the coming year. This aggregation will provide ADD with a tool for monitoring of the public input requirement. Furthermore, it will provide an overview of program direction, and permit ADD to track accomplishments against goals/targets, permitting the formulation of technical assistance and compliance with the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993.

Protection and Advacacy (P&A) Voting Access Application and Annual Report

Description: This is a revision to include the application for the previously cleared Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Annual report. An application is required by Federal statute (the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002, Pub. L. 107-252, Section 291, Payments for Protection and Advocacy Systems, 42 U.S.C. 15461). Each State Protection & Advocacy (P&A) System must prepare an application in accordance with the program announcement. There is no application kit; the P&As application may be in the format of its choice. It must, however, be signed by the P&As Executive Director or the designated representative, and contain the assurances as outlined under Part I.C. Use of Funds. The P&As designated representatives may signify their agreement with the conditions/assurances by signing and returning the assurance document Attachment B, found in Part IV of this Instruction. The assurance document signed by the Executive Director of the P&A, or other designated person, should be submitted with the application to the Administration on Developmental Disabilities.

Developmental Disabilities Protection and Advocacy Program Performance Report

Description: This information collection is required by federal statute. Each State Protection and Advocacy System must prepare and submit a Program Performance Report for the preceding fiscal year of activities and accomplishments and of conditions in the State. The information in the Annual Report will be aggregated into a national profile of Protection and Advocacy Systems. It will also provide Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) with an overview of program trends and achievements and will enable ADD to respond to administration and congressional requests for specific information on program activities. This information will also be used to submit a Biennial Report to Congress as well as to comply with requirements in the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993.
