State Health Facts Data Updates

August 28, 2008 Data Update Statehealthfacts.org has recently added new and updated data on Health Costs & Budgets, Managed Care & Health Insurance, Medicare, Health Status, Women's Health and HIV/AIDS. You can also view a list of all recent updates. Health Costs & Budgets Prescription DrugsUpdated data from Verispan on prescription drugs filled at retail pharmacies in 2007 are now available for all states and the nation. The total number of retail prescription drugs filled, drugs per capita, and drugs per capita by age and gender have been updated. Data on total sales for retail prescriptions have also been updated and are available by state and for the nation. Managed Care & Health Insurance Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs)Updated data from HealthLeaders InterStudy as of July 2007 on HMOs including total number of HMOs operating in each state, total HMO enrollment, and HMO penetration rates are now available for all states and the nation. Medicare State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP) New State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP) topics based on Kaiser Family Foundation analysis of the latest Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data have been added and are available for all states. Topics include the total number of qualified SPAPs per state, SPAP eligibility requirements, and benefits offered under SPAPs in 2007. Health Status Deaths The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on overall death rates for 2006 are now available for all states and the nation. Death rate by gender for 2005 and death rate by race/ethnicity for 2005 have also been added and are available for all states. Mortality rates for deaths caused by cancer, heart disease, firearms, and motor vehicle deaths for 2005 are also available by gender and race/ethnicity. Updated information from the CDC’s Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) on colorectal cancer death rates has been updated for 2004 for all states and the nation. Cancer State-by-state data from the CDC and National Cancer Institute (NCI) has been added on cancer incidence rate; cancer incidence rate by gender; and cancer incidence rate by race/ethnicity for 2004. Breast and Cervical Cancer Updated incidence rates from the CDC and NCI for breast cancer and cervical cancer are now available for 2004 for all states. The 2004 breast cancer and cervical cancer incidence rates by race/ethnicity are also available by state.
