Sustaining Grassroots Community-Based Programs:

Today, grassroots community and faithbased treatment and recovery providers are concerned about sustaining critical services for individuals and families affected by substance abuse and mental health disorders. Time-limited grant funding and categorical funding streams leave grassroots organizations in a constant scramble to find funds and pay rent, utilities, salaries, and program expenses. Relying on grant awards and contracts alone will not ensure a future for such organizations: Once those funds are gone, critical services for clients may cease to exist. Again and again, organizations that rely on funds from grants and contracts come back to the same question:“How do I fi nd the resources to sustain and supportmy program services over time?”
