Out and About - A Transportation and Mobility Guide for Older Adults in Howard County, their Families and Caregivers, developed by the Howard County, Md. Commission on Aging for their Office on Aging, has broad applications. It covers the spectrum of senior transportation issues, including walking safely in the community, assistance on determining whether to drive, improving one's driving, and getting around by alternative transportation modes. It covers key issues family members may have related to their loved ones, particularly those with dementia. It is a one-stop resource that addresses all the issues surrounding safe mobility for seniors. This guide can be used to develop local guides for residents and professionals addressing senior mobility issues in your area. If you have questions on customizing the guide for your area, contact John Eberhard at jeberhard2@msn.com.
If you would like more information on developing a community mobility guide, booklet or brochure about transportation options in your area, you may want to check out the NCST's Senior Transportation Options Template. This tool was developed through a cooperative effort of Easter Seals and the Beverly Foundation and is part of the Transportation Solutions for Caregivers series.
