Sharpen Your Aging Brain in a Week — This Old Brain

Mindfulness meditation has been around a couple of months longer than forever and is practiced by millions. It is the simple focus on the breath and noticing when we are thinking or, as Thich Nhat Hanh would tell us, lost in thought.

The other – newer – model is called integrative mind body training. See article on integrative body mind training for more details.

Here is the good news. Newer studies now seem to demonstrate a measurable positive effect from either of these within a week. Both studies were based on people doing the respective practice 3x a week for 20 minutes per session.
